School & Business Closings - Important Updates

The Rhode Island Broadcasters' School and Business Closings alert system is active whenever there is a weather emergency. 

Every school district in RI and nearby MA participates and posts their closing/delay information. The system also serves thousands of businesses, hospitals and medical facilities, non-profit organizations and churches/religious organizations. Parking bans and road closures are also posted by local municipalities and state officials. There is an annual $100 fee for all businesses. Non-profit and government entities are exempt from this fee. 

Closing information is posted on all participating radio and television station websites. TV stations also post closings on the "crawl" which appears on-screen during local newscasts and extended emergency weather coverage.
